History:
The Volkswagen Kübelwagen Type 82 was a light military utility vehicle used extensively by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. Designed by Ferdinand Porsche and based on the Volkswagen Beetle, it entered series production in 1940.
Despite having only rear-wheel drive, the Kübelwagen offered excellent off-road capabilities thanks to its lightweight construction, high ground clearance and rear-mounted, air-cooled engine. Its simple and robust design made it particularly suitable for military operations under difficult conditions.
The Type 82 served on virtually all fronts, from the deserts of North Africa to the harsh conditions of the Eastern Front. It was primarily used for reconnaissance, liaison duties and personnel transport.
Approximately 50,000 Kübelwagen Type 82 vehicles were produced before production ended in 1945, making it one of the most widely used German light military vehicles of World War II.
