History:
The Douglas A-20G Havoc was one of the most successful variants of the American A-20 family, which served during the Second World War as a light bomber, ground-attack aircraft and night fighter. The aircraft was known as the Havoc in US service, while the Royal Air Force and other Commonwealth operators generally used the name Boston.

With the A-20G, the design became increasingly focused on low-level attack and ground-support missions. The glazed bombardier's nose of earlier versions was replaced by a solid nose section carrying a powerful fixed forward-firing armament. Many A-20Gs were equipped with six .50-calibre M2 Browning machine guns in the nose, making the aircraft highly effective against ground targets, shipping, airfields and supply installations.

The A-20G entered large-scale production in 1943 and saw combat in both the European and Pacific theatres. It became particularly well known for fast, low-level attack missions, where its high speed, rugged construction and heavy forward armament could be used to full effect.

Large numbers of A-20s were also supplied to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease programme. There, the aircraft became one of the more highly regarded American types and was employed in a variety of roles, including light bombing, reconnaissance and torpedo attacks.

With its distinctive shape, heavily armed nose and remarkable versatility, the A-20G Havoc remains one of the most recognisable twin-engined combat aircraft of the Second World War.
