About the original:
The RF-4C Phantom II was developed from the famous twin-engined McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II fighter. Designed as a tactical reconnaissance aircraft, it was intended to carry out observation, photographic reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering missions, even under difficult operational conditions over hostile territory.

The RF-4C could be distinguished from the fighter and fighter-bomber variants by its characteristically shaped forward fuselage. Instead of the standard armament, the nose housed a range of sophisticated cameras, terrain-scanning equipment and data-gathering systems. These enabled the aircraft to photograph strategically important targets, survey terrain and collect valuable information for mission planning.

The RF-4C was used extensively during the Vietnam War. Throughout its service life, its avionics, cameras and reconnaissance equipment were continuously upgraded. The aircraft remained operational with the United States Air Force and several allied air forces until the late 1990s. Despite carrying extensive reconnaissance equipment, it retained impressive flight performance and was capable of a maximum speed exceeding Mach 2.
