Historical background:
The Tirpitz was the second battleship of the German Bismarck class and the largest battleship ever built in Europe. Commissioned in 1941, she was mainly stationed in Norwegian waters, where she posed a serious threat to Allied Arctic convoys. Although Tirpitz saw only limited direct combat, her presence alone tied down considerable British naval and air forces. After several attacks by midget submarines and aircraft, she was heavily damaged by British bombers near Tromsø on 12 November 1944 and capsized.
