Historical background:
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-5 and G-6 (“Gustav”) were advanced versions of the 109 series, introduced into Luftwaffe service around early 1943. Both variants featured upgraded 13 mm MG 131 machine guns, whose installation in the fuselage required distinctive “bump” fairings. The G-5 was fitted with a pressurized cockpit, making it suitable for high-altitude operations, while the G-6 served as the standard fighter — over 11,900 units were built. Many aircraft carried underwing kits, for example for rockets (Werfer-Granate) or external fuel tanks. The G-6 remained one of the most widely produced Bf 109 variants until the end of the war, serving in multiple roles such as interceptor, night fighter, and reconnaissance.
