Historical Background:
At the 1972 Rallye Monte Carlo, the Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF made motorsport history. Driven by the Italian duo Sandro Munari and Mario Mannucci, Lancia achieved a spectacular overall victory against much more powerful competitors. The compact front-wheel-drive car, powered by a 1.6-liter V4 engine producing around 130 hp, impressed with its excellent balance, precise steering, and remarkable traction on the snow-covered Alpine stages.
Despite facing stronger rivals such as the Porsche 911, Alpine-Renault A110, and Ford Escort, the Fulvia prevailed thanks to perfect preparation, driver skill, and tactical intelligence. The win by Munari and Mannucci marked the final great triumph of the Fulvia, before the arrival of the legendary Lancia Stratos on the rally scene.
This victory cemented Lancia’s reputation as an innovative brand with true racing DNA, paving the way for its glorious rally era throughout the 1970s.
