About the Original Heinkel He 177 A-3 Greif:
The Heinkel He 177 A-3 “Greif” was a German heavy bomber variant of the Second World War. Designed as a long-range bomber, the He 177 was intended to carry heavy bomb loads over great distances. One of its distinctive features was its coupled engine arrangement, which appeared externally as two large engines but consisted of two paired powerplants on each side. The A-3 was an important production version of the “Greif” and was used for bombing missions as well as maritime operations against shipping targets. However, technical problems, especially with the engines, significantly affected its operational use.
