History of the M36 Jackson:
The M36 "Jackson" was an American tank destroyer developed late in World War II to counter increasingly formidable German tanks such as the Panther and Tiger. Unlike its predecessor, the M10, the M36 was equipped with a powerful 90 mm M3 gun, capable of defeating heavily armored targets at long range.

Built on the chassis of the M4 Sherman, the M36 featured an open-top turret, a characteristic common to U.S. tank destroyers at the time. While this design improved visibility and reduced weight, it left the crew more vulnerable to enemy fire and shrapnel. Nevertheless, the M36 was valued for its mobility, firepower, and versatility.

The M36 first saw combat in late 1944, including action during the Battle of the Bulge and the final Allied advance into Germany. It proved highly effective in the tank destroyer role and continued to serve beyond WWII—in the Korean War and in the armed forces of several countries, including Yugoslavia, well into the late 20th century.
