Historical background:
The M24 Chaffee was developed in the final phase of World War II as a modern replacement for the outdated M3/M5 Stuart light tanks. The goal was to create a light tank with improved firepower, better mobility, and enhanced protection while retaining the speed required for reconnaissance roles.

Armed with a 75 mm M6 gun, the M24 offered a significant increase in firepower compared to its predecessors. Powered by twin Cadillac V8 engines, the approximately 18-ton vehicle could reach a top speed of around 55 km/h (34 mph). Its compact design, mechanical reliability, and good cross-country performance made it a versatile and effective vehicle.

The M24 saw its first combat action in December 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. It was subsequently deployed in both the European and Pacific theaters, where it proved particularly effective in reconnaissance missions, infantry support, and rapid advances.

After World War II, the M24 remained in service with numerous armed forces worldwide and was used during the Korean War. In several countries, it continued to serve well into the 1960s. The Chaffee is regarded as one of the most successful light tanks of its era and had a lasting influence on the development of subsequent U.S. reconnaissance and light armored vehicles.
